FAQ

Do you offer online or telehealth sessions?

Yes, we offer secure and HIPAA-compliant video sessions. This allows you to receive professional support from the comfort and privacy of your own home, making therapy more accessible for those with busy schedules or mobility concerns.

What should I expect during my first session?

The first session is an opportunity for us to get to know each other. We will discuss your history, what brings you to therapy now, and what you hope to achieve. It’s a space for you to ask questions and ensure you feel comfortable with the therapeutic approach.

How often will I need to attend therapy sessions?

Most clients start with weekly sessions to build momentum and establish a strong therapeutic relationship. As you progress and begin to meet your goals, we may transition to bi-weekly or monthly "check-in" sessions.

Do you accept insurance?

We accept a variety of insurance plans and also offer "out-of-network" billing services. We recommend contacting your provider to verify your mental health benefits, or we can assist you in checking your coverage during the intake process.

What if I don’t feel like my therapist is the right match?

The "therapeutic fit" is essential for success. If you feel that our styles don't align, we encourage you to share your feedback. We are happy to help you transition to another professional within our practice or provide external referrals.

What is the difference between a therapist and a psychiatrist?

Therapists focus on "talk therapy" to help you manage emotions and behaviors. Psychiatrists are medical doctors who primarily focus on the biological aspects of mental health and can prescribe and manage medications.

How long is a typical counseling session?

Standard individual sessions typically last between 45 to 55 minutes. Couples or family sessions may sometimes be scheduled for longer durations depending on the complexity of the needs being addressed.

Can I bring my partner or a family member to my session?

While individual therapy focuses on your personal journey, there are times when involving a loved one can be beneficial. This should be discussed with your therapist beforehand to ensure it aligns with your treatment goals.

What is your cancellation policy?

We require at least 24 hours' notice for cancellations or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the time slot to another client in need. Late cancellations or missed appointments may be subject to a fee.

Do you work with children and adolescents?

Yes, we have specialists who are trained to work with children and teens. We use age-appropriate techniques, such as play therapy or creative expression, to help younger clients navigate their emotions and social challenges.

What if I am in a crisis and need immediate help?

If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call emergency services or visit the nearest emergency room immediately. Our practice is not a 24/7 crisis center, but we provide resources for hotlines you can contact at any time.

How can I prepare for my first therapy appointment?

No formal preparation is needed. It can be helpful to think about the main concerns you want to address or any specific questions you have for the therapist. Above all, just bring an open mind and a willingness to be honest.

Is therapy only for people with "serious" mental health issues?

Not at all. Therapy is for anyone looking to improve their quality of life. Whether you are dealing with a major transition, seeking better work-life balance, or just want to understand yourself better, therapy is a valuable tool.

Are there any issues you do not treat?

While we cover a broad spectrum of mental health needs, some specialized conditions (like severe active psychosis or specialized eating disorder recovery) may require a higher level of care. We will always provide referrals if we aren't the best fit for your safety.
